Vitamin D Levels......why you should know your numbers.

Did you know most people don't realize they're deficient in vitamin D until it's too late. This is because the symptoms are often subtle and confused with "normal aging."

"Vitamin D, why you should know your numbers", An article published by Today In Neurology explains an associated risk, in older adults, for dementia when they were found to have low Vitamin D levels. Thankfully, more studies will be conducted to determine the best dose and level to minimize that particular risk.

What you need to know now: Do you have family members with dementia? If you answered "Yes", that could indicate an increased personal risk for you. Do you have high blood pressure? High blood pressure can lead to vascular dementia. During your routine annual blood work, ask your provider for a Vitamin D level. Be proactive, make sure your numbers are sufficient and not low. If you are deficient, talk to your provider about taking a Vitamin D supplement. It's also important to make sure you're taking the right dose and the right type of Vitamin D for your particular situation.

The proper Vitamin D level is one very important part of your overall health and wellness. If you're interested in knowing more, or interested in getting the "whole picture" we'd love to see you and get you started toward living a healthier life.
